CLASS CONTENT AND DESCRIPTION

The material in this training program in anatomy and physiology has been prepared as an online class component of the Blue Heron Academy core curriculum.  We think that you will find that this training program is both interesting and engaging, and that it will greatly assist you in your study of anatomy and physiology.

The Online Anatomy and Physiology program has been developed to enhance and to improve your knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, and to assist in your preparation for the national board exams of the American Medical Massage Association, and the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork.

The instructional material in this program has been broken down into three separate areas - the Reading Assignments, Activities Map, and the Tests.  In addition there is an online class chat room where you can ask questions and get help with your assignments.

Download, Save and Print the Complete Anatomy and Physiology Online Course in PDF format now.  Expect a slight delay during download.

The 3 part course curriculum covers the following anatomy and physiology topics:

This program is equivalent to a college course in anatomy and physiology, with lab.

The program is self paced and students of the Blue Heron Academy have up to six months to complete this program material.

The best way to complete this material is by READING, DOING, and TESTING.

READING

The textbook that has been selected is the The Complete Idiot's Guide to Anatomy and Physiology by Michael Lazaroff.  The book can be purchased easily online at Barnes and Noble,  Amazon and other Internet book outlets.  ISBN code: 1592572030

Book Description

The essential handbook for healthcare workers.

Anatomy and physiology students require more than a passing grade, and have to retain what they learn as they pursue a career in the healthcare industry. With that in mind, this guide takes a fresh approach to the study of the human body and its functions, placing its emphasis on the connections between the body's systems as opposed to covering them each in isolation. With this book, students will actually learn anatomy and physiology rather than just memorize the facts.

ACTIVITIES

This program has been specifically designed with different student learning styles in mind, and it utilizes the most up to date learning methods and strategies.  The first step that you will need to do in this self paced computer assisted learning program is to READ the material that directly relates to the DOING or ACTIVITIES part of this program.

The list above outlines the topic areas of A & P that are covered in this program.  For each topic there is corresponding material in your Anatomy Coloring Book that you need to READ.  After you have read the material then you can complete the ACTIVITIES assigned in the ACTIVITIES section of the program, and the last step is to complete the TEST material that relates to the READING and ACTIVITIES that you have completed.

The activities part of the A & P online class has been designed to fully engage you in the learning process of this online class and to assist you with committing this information to memory.

In the activities part of the A & P program you are given assignments and specific tasks to perform which you have to present to your instructor, or that you can discuss in the online class chat room.

You will need the following materials to complete the ACTIVITIES in the ACTIVITIES SECTION of this program:

The ACTIVITIES SECTION of this course is divided into tasks and topics including:

Let's describe each of these ACTIVITIES:

Diagram

When you are asked to diagram use graph paper and list and sketch out the information that is requested of you. You are NOT expected to be a graphic designer or artist.  These diagrams are expected to be casual and brief outlines of the information requested and do not need to be works of art suitable for hanging in an art museum.

Dissection

Fortunately for you we cannot send you a human cadaver in the mail.  (At least we don't think we can)  Dissection will mean that you will perform tasks that mimic dissection.  These tasks will include describing body parts, coloring over muscles and organs, or going to the grocery store for pig intestines.  (Yes we really did that)  If you are a vegetarian you may substitute zucchini!

Explorations

Exploration will require you to "go off campus" and to do some internet browsing and key word searching in order to answer the questions asked of you. Of course you may also go to the library. (They still have those don't they?)

Labs

Labs are activities that you will have to complete using various materials (like those pig intestines).  After you have completed the lab assignment you will need to tell your instructor what you found out or discovered.

Models

This is where you get to play with that modeling clay that you bought.  You will be asked to make clay models of various body parts or organs.  If you have a digital camera you can send your instructor a picture of your model.  If you don't have a digital camera you will need to sketch the body part or organ and send that to your instructor, hopefully, after scanning it into your computer.  If you can't photograph or scan the model you may sketch it and fax, email, or mail the assignment to your online instructor.

Look

The Look ACTIVITIES will require you to use your home or bathroom mirror and to observe parts of your body and its organ systems.

Drawing

Drawing is a lot of fun and it will definitely help you to remember the body parts and systems that you will be asked to draw. Submit your drawings to your instructor by mail or email when you have completed them.

TESTS

We have created a test and a final exam that covers every main topic area within this program, including:

Test questions will be taken directly from the Anatomy Coloring Book.  You will need to read and review that material in order to answer the test questions.  Once you have answered the questions send your answers to your instructor and you will be given credit for having completed that part of the program.  Once you have completed all ACTIVITY assignments, and the TESTS, you will have completed the entire program and will be given credit for having completed the program.  Remember this program is self-paced and you will be able to work on the assignments and tasks as you are completing your other course work at the Blue Heron Academy.

Assignments and tests in this online computer assisted program are "open book," to facilitate your studies don't forget to use the index in the Anatomy Coloring Book to quickly locate the information that you are looking for.  Also keep in mind that your program textbook, the Anatomy Coloring Book, has also been designed for self study and guides you through many learning strategies in anatomy and physiology that will assist you in learning these important subjects.

Online Class Room - More Help

The online class room has been created and designed so that you can get the additional class and course assistance that you need.  You will need to know your password, and when the online class room is in session.  Your online class room password will be provided to you in week four of your course by your classroom teacher.  If you have any questions contact the administration office at admin@blueheronacademy.com.

Final Exam

When you have completed the entire course and all of its assignments you will be ready to take the course Final Exam.  Contact your course instructor and the instructor will confirm that you have completed all requirements and that you may take the Final Exam.

Non Computer Students:

If you are completing this program from a printout of the program disc you may mail your work and test answers to your instructor.

I wish you every success.  Dr. Gregory Lawton
